How to start using Microsoft Teams

Matt Blowes July 30, 2019 Collaboration, Office 365, Microsoft 365

Microsoft Teams is now one of the most innovative apps in the Office 365 suite and most businesses are well placed to start using it.

Teams sets itself apart from other collaboration solutions because of its ease-of-use, meeting & video-conferencing abilities and unparalleled integration with Microsoft Office apps.

Over the past two years, its popularity has grown with over 13 million people using the app every day.

Take a look at Microsoft Teams

Microsoft have put together a concise demo of the app's key features, including instant messaging, document collaboration, project management and meetings.

We recommend watching from 2:00 to 12:00 to get a sense of the app's scope.

Highlights include:

  • 3:10 - Team channels
  • 4:50 - Guests (third party) access
  • 5:50 - File collaboration & sharing
  • 7:30 - Creating shared work spaces, and project management
  • 8:25 - Meetings
Why Microsoft Teams is cost-effective

Cost is not a barrier for most businesses and organisations. Microsoft Teams is easily accessible in two ways:

  1. It is included in Office 365 Business Premium and Office 365 E3 subscriptions (and all Microsoft 365 subscriptions).
  2. A basic free tier is available.

While the free tier is useful to gain a sense of the app, using Teams with an Office 365 subscription will remove restrictions. Notably, the ability to schedule meetings, conferencing, file sharing and compliance.
